"I recently went out with a "friend of friend" to the Avalon for dinner and some jazz. I had a GREAT time, the place was packed, but the bartender made us feel very welcome at the bar, until we could get a table. The food was cooked perfectly. I had salmon that was to die for! and my date had a steak, he said was "better than anywhere in the valley" What really made the night was the music, truly one of best group of local performers I have ever seen. Anyone who goes to the Avalon and doesn't have a swinging good time needs a hip replacement! "

Don't bother

"I was ignored by the male bartender, too busy on the cell phone. Food ok, a bit overpriced. Try some professionalism here people. It is a small town."

"I recently ate at the Avalon and was sorely disappointed my Tuscany Panini was 9.95 and only consisted of four thinly sliced pieces of Gallo salami for the whole sandwich with not enough blue cheese to see never mind taste and 1oz of wilted spinach, 2 slices of tomato, and a handful of potato chips. Then we sat there for 15 minutes waiting for our check while being looked at by servers who were folding napkins. I will never spend my hard earned money there again and recommend no one else does either."

Birthday Party

Pros: good food, service, drinks and music...the whole package

"I threw a small birthday party at The Avalon with 10 guests. While the group was trickeling in, we all ordered drinks up at the bar. The bar tender told us that he would transfer our bills to our table. I found this to be considerate and helped to set a fun tone right from the start. When we where ready to be seated, they put us at a large booth table that was very comfortable for a group of that size. Our server was very friendly.She was willing to answer questions and made some wonderful recomendations. We had New Yorks topped with Rogue Creamery Blu cheese and grilled mushrooms. At the end of the evening she was willing to split our checks up by couples. Just as we where about to leave some musicans started to load in there equipment. Half of the group decided to stay on and enjoy some tunes. It was a perfect ending. We cant wait to go back for date night!"

Best Music in Southern Oregon!

Pros: Patio seating with great views.

Cons: Need reservations for special events.

"The weekend Jazz venue is great and special music events bring in some incredible talent. The wine selection is stellar! Local ingredients used in their lunch and dinner menu make for a fun and memorable dining experience. "

"Trying to be 5 star in a 2 star town is tough. Charging for that while not meeting expectations sours the experience.

"I love the Avalon!!!-the staff (especially the male bartender), the food which is imaginative yet not overstated and menu has a range from (my favorite) pan-fried oysters to full entrees (for a slightlier fuller wallet). I love how they are able to combine a local, corner place feel with the great venue for a range of musical talent. Clientele has a range too from retiree to yuppie, hippie and blue collar trades like myself."

Best Restaurant outside of Medford?

"My wife and I went for Valentines Day. I understand that restaurants are very busy on this particular day. I made reservations which was convenient. I ordered a draft beer and it came out flat. We sat down and this was our first experience at this restaurant. A couple of minutes later our waitress came up and asked us "You ready to order?" She did not explain anything on the menu or offer any suggestions. We ordered a lamb empanada for an appetizer. The lamb was extremely dry and had no flavor.

For our entrees I ordered the crab ravioli and my wife ordered a BBQ Pork Loin dish, we also ordered caesar salads. Typically, I enjoy caesar salads, but this had an overwhelmingly taste of anchovies. A caesar will most likely have a hint of anchovies. I was never asked if I would like another beer until mid way through our entree. My water was never refilled until I asked another waitress if I could get a refill of water.

Our entrees came out and my wife's dish looked good. The potato salad on her plate was not cooked all the way through. Her potatoes were crunchy. The grilled pineapple on her plate still had the pineapple rinds in the middle.

My crab ravioli were ok.

Overall, I thought if you are going to charge the amount that Avalon charges for food, then the attention to detail is important. I will not be back for dinner. "

"very very slow getting our food..for just a shrimp salad and pizzetta. However, LARGE portions of salad and shrimp, and the flavor of the pizzetta more than made up for the slow service. Also surprised at how FULL the place got at 6 pm on a weeknight. Loved the way they decorated the place..especially the bar lights. Not sure if I'll go back...very spendy."

"Absolutely the worst steak I have ever eaten in a restaurant; the pricing was extremely high; the service was adequate; the diet coke was okay; the baked potato was good"

"On fridays they have wonderful live music for free. Great dinners and huge wine selection. The staff is friendly and on the run... Check it out and bring your friends."

Cons: location in a "strip mall area"; outdoor ambience needs improvement

"Atmosphere is nice. Clean bathrooms.
Prices are decent. My latest experience though, was a female bartender serving alcohol to an obviously intoxicated woman; she could barely keep her head from bobbing up and down."

Unimpressed

"A groups of friends and i went on a friday night to hear jazz...there was none. It was not a hip atmosphere at all-just a small venue filled with blue haired hippie women. Service was SLOW SLOW SLOW and the waitress had an attitude that seemed she couldn't care less if we were there. Decor is boring and the place really didn't seem to have much of a soul. My shrimp panini was tasty but the whole experience at the Avalon was blah. Maybe on a night with music it would feel different. "

Lousy location

"Too bad it's not an anchor in downtown Talent! Good wine selection, seems to be lot of staff crossover between bar and such. However that leads to much chatter between staff and snobbish manager."

Avalon is good

Cons: I was not impressed by Paul the bartender. A little fake for me.

"The Avalon is the only "nice" place to go in Talent, Oregon. The girls that work there run around like crazy to make sure all is well. The food is good, a little $$$."

Just ok

"I've hear some good comments about this place and watched the commercial but wasn't very impressed. I went there for lunch one day and sat near the bar, waited and waited for service. The food was so so, I've had better, I've also had worse."
